Carlos and Steven Battey were born and raised in Savannah, Georgia where they began their music careers at the pier on River Street performing for the local people in their hometown. Their inspiration and love for music was instilled in them by their mother Jackie.
“Jackie Boyz” was created by the brothers to recognize and carry on the name of their beloved mother who tragically died in 2004, just a year after their father also died. The loss of both their parents influenced and motivated Carlos and Steven to leave Savannah and pursue their music careers.
Having relocated to Los Angeles the brothers supported themselves entirely by singing on the streets. The daily challenge of grabbing the attention of passersby with a slew of covers and increasingly, self-penned originals lead to them being spotted by a local record company A&R Exec. Their very first cut was the Flo Rida smash “Sugar” featuring Wynter Gordon.
The Jackie Boys have Written and produced material for Madonna, Justin Bieber, Chris Brown, Amy Weber, Sean Kingston, Cee-Lo Green, Jennifer Hudson, Ciara, Diggy Sommons, Charice, Jay Sean, Big Time Rush, Shontelle, Candice, Glober and Mann, among others. They co-wrote the platinum selling single “Eenie Meenie” performed by Justin Bieber and Sean Kingston and Madonna’s 2009 single “Revolver.”
In 2011, the duo won their first Grammy at the 53rd Annual Grammy Awards for their contribution to the David Guetta ‘One Love’ Club Mix of Madonna’s “Revolver.” The song won for Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical. That year the Boyz were also nominated for Best Pop Vocal Album for Justin Biber’s “My World 2.0.” These successes follow their 2009 nomination in the Best Rap Song category for their work on Flo Rida’s “Sugar.”
Carlos and Steven started their acclaimed “Jackie Boyz & Friends” concert series in 2013 and also started developing a new body of work as artists. 2014 sees the brothers developing a very diverse group of young Songwriter and Record Producer teams in both Los Angeles and Nashville. This ambition to sign, nurture and develop a roster of emerging songwriter talent is the foundation of their new Publishing Joint Venture with Razor & Tie Music Publishing.
Jackie Boyz have just scored their first Latin No. 1 with Jen Carlos Canella and also vocal produced Jason Derulo’s Spanish Language version of the monster radio and sales hit “Talk Dirty.” Carlos has also just provided the singing voice of Bobby Brown in the new Angela Bassett directed Whitney Houston biopic.
Jackie Boyz have, to date, contributed to over 15 million record sales, four number one albums and five top ten singles.
