Singer. Songwriter. Actor. Model. Champion athlete. That's a lot to pack into 16 years. But, for Mathias Anderle, it's all in a day's work.
Born in Puyallup, Washington, not far from Seattle (sorry girls, that's nowhere near Forks, home to another famous, but immortal
teen), Mathias has always been surrounded by musicians and artists. For a young musician, you could say that Mathias
won the geographical lottery. He was lucky enough to be born in Northwest Washington- one of the most celebrated and
eclectic music scenes in the world- and the home of Jimi Hendrix, Quincy Jones, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Sound Garden,
Modest Mouse and Death Cab for Cutie, just to name a few.
It didn't take long for Mathias' passion for music and acting to become the driving force in his life. By the age of 5, he was singing and performing at local church productions. He taught
himself how to play the guitar at the age of 10 and began playing the local coffee house circuit while he was still in Jr. High
School. Mathias co-writes most of his own songs and his influences are varied, "I've always challenged myself to learn new
musical styles and incorporate them into my songwriting," says Mathias. "I like to mix together Jazz, R&B, Pop, Rock and
Reggae to create my own unique sound. I really admire artists like Justin Timberlake and Jesse McCartney who've successfully
mixed different genres and influences," he adds.
Mathias is now hard at work writing and recording for his debut
album release in 2010. His first single, "Shine On," is a featured
track on KIDZ BOP 17, dropping on January 26th. Mathias
stars in the CD's major TV ad campaign and is prominently featured
on the album packaging."I'd been working on several
songs over the last eight months and had written the guitar
chord progressions and partial lyrics for 'Shine On.' This fall, I got into the studio and collaborated
with an amazing
producer and the song really
came together. It's about
something I think a lot of us
can relate to…really liking a
particular person and how
you feel when they actually
show an interest in you too,"
he explains. A full-length
music video for "Shine On" is
also scheduled to premiere in
February 2010.
The Anderle family recently
relocated from rainy
Washington to sunny Los
Angeles, so that Mathias
could pursue both his music
and acting careers. Not long
after arriving in LA, he landed
the role of Colin- the male
lead in the upcoming
Nickelodeon movie, "School
Gyrls"- co-starring Justin Bieber, Kristinia DeBarge and Soulja
Boy. The movie, slated to bow in February 2010 on the hit cable
network, was written and directed by popular rapper and actor,
Nick Cannon.
The busy teen can also add in-demand male model to his
repertoire. At 16, he is the youngest model ever to be signed to
the Wilhelmina Men's Board. You may have already seen him
in print campaigns for Nordstrom, Qwest and numerous youth
apparel lines.
When he's not singing, acting
or modeling, Mathias can usually
be found on the field or
catching a wave. As a premier
level soccer player, Mathias
played for a P1 team in
Washington and was a member
of the State Olympic
Development Program. "I'd definitely
want to be a professional
soccer player if I wasn't singing
and acting," he admits.
Mathias' love of the game
inspired him to create the One
World Soccer Foundation. The
organization collects new and
used soccer gear for kids that
would otherwise not have the
chance to play. Mathias hopes
to expand the organization,
which currently helps kids in
the US and Mexico, worldwide
in the coming year. Off the field, Mathias is an avid surfer and
skim boarder, activities he'll get to enjoy even more now that
he's living in LA full time.
Mathias is also very close to his family and friends. He's excited
about embarking on this new LA adventure with his mom, dad,
younger sister, Brittney, and the four family pets.
Now, who says you can't do it all?!?!
